ALTAIR SEMICONDUCTOR RENEWS LICENSE AGREEMENT FOR USE OF SONICS’ ON-CHIP INTERCONNECT IP IN ITS AWARD-WINNING 4G LTE PRODUCTS

February 24, 2014 – MILPITAS, CA – Sonics, Inc., the world’s foremost supplier of on-chip network (NoC) technologies and services, today announced that Altair Semiconductor, the world’s leading developer of high-performance, single-mode LTE chipsets, has renewed its license agreement to use Sonics’ interconnect intellectual property (IP) in its line of single-mode, 4G LTE systems-on-chip (SoC).

Altair’s SoC products are the smallest, lowest power 4G LTE devices available today. Based on a novel, proprietary 4G Optimized OFDM Processor (O²P™), Altair’s devices offer an unmatched combination of flexibility and performance with ultra-low power consumption. Altair’s comprehensive 4G product portfolio includes baseband processors, multi-band RF transceivers for both FDD and TDD bands, and a range of reference hardware and product level protocol stack software.

“We are excited to renew our on-chip network licensing agreement with Altair,” said Grant Pierce, CEO at Sonics. “Altair is at the forefront of SoC design innovation for the wireless market and Sonics is proud to contribute to the continued success of the company’s products.”

Altair recently won the “Best Chipset/Processor Product” award at the LTE North America conference held in Dallas, Texas. The company’s FourGee-3100/6202 chipset, which incorporates Sonics’ interconnect IP, is designed into the new HP Chromebook 11 and Verizon Ellipsis 7 tablets.

“We chose Sonics instead of the competitive offerings because it provides us with the best total system solution and product support available for on-chip networks,” said Eli Zyss, vice president of silicon design at Altair Semiconductor. “Sonics’ highly configurable interconnect IP continues to deliver the capabilities we need to exceed our aggressive power and performance goals.”
