Earlier this morning we learned how the HP Chromebook 11 LTE connectivity would be coming by way of a chip from Altair Semiconductor. While HP has yet to offer any sort of press release style announcement, it seems the pricing has been revealed by way of a retail product listing. The listing comes courtesy of Best Buy, who have the LTE-equipped Chromebook available and priced at $379.
For those keeping track, that does amount to a $100 premium above the regular WiFi-only version of the HP Chromebook 11. And again, to clarify, this particular Altair chip will not offer anything in terms of 3G connectivity. Given the cellular connectivity will be coming from Verizon Wireless, that lack of 3G shouldn’t be as much of an issue.
The folks at Liliputing have also mentioned there is a $50 mail-in rebate available for those attaching this to a Verizon plan. That will add an additional $10 to the cost of your monthly plan with Verizon, and it will allow you to share your current pool of data with yet another device. Essentially, this means the cost of the notebook, post-rebate, will be $329.
Otherwise, aside from the addition of LTE connectivity — this is the same Chromebook 11 we saw introduced several months earlier. That means an 11.6-inch display with a resolution of 1366 x 768 along with an Exynos 5 Dual (Exynos 5250) processor with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of SSD storage. Other perks here include a weight of 2.3 pounds, thickness of 0.7-inches, chiclet style Chrome OS keyboard, webcam for video calling and 100GB of Google Drive storage (free for two-years).
That all being said, for now it appears Best Buy only has the HP Chromebook 11 LTE available in stores. There is a ship to store option available, but at the moment, no home delivery. Also worth noting, while the Chromebook 11 is available in a variety of colors, for now it seems the LTE model is only shipping in white with blue trim.
